Our website address is https://theconnectory.eu. The Co-nnectory is a community platform for South Africans in the Netherlands. We collect only the information needed to provide our services and we respect your privacy at all times.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the information shown in the comments form. We also collect the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address, also called a hash, may be sent to the Gravatar service to check if you use it. The Gravatar privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy. After your comment is approved your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website you should avoid uploading images that contain embedded location data. Visitors can download and extract location data from images on the site.

Cookies

If you leave a comment you may choose to save your name, email and website in cookies. This is for your convenience so you do not have to fill in your details again. These cookies last for one year.

If you visit our login page we will set a temporary cookie to check if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie does not contain personal data and is deleted when you close your browser.

When you log in we set several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days and screen option cookies last for one year. If you choose Remember Me your login will stay active for two weeks. If you log out the login cookies are removed.

If you edit or publish an article an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. It contains no personal data. It simply stores the post ID of the article you edited. It expires after one day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content such as videos or images. Embedded content behaves in the same way as if you visited the original website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, add third party tracking and monitor how you interact with their content. This can include tracking your interaction if you have an account and are logged in on that external site.

Who we share your data with

If you request a password reset your IP address will be included in the reset email.
For our newsletter sign-up we share your name and email with Mailchimp because they provide our email service. Mailchimp stores your information securely and follows European data protection standards. We do not sell your information or share it with any other party.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment the comment and its metadata are kept indefinitely. This helps us recognise and approve future comments automatically.

If you register on our website we store the personal information you provide in your user profile. You can see, edit or delete your information at any time except for your username. Administrators can also see and edit this information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site or have left comments you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you. You can also request deletion of your personal data. This does not include data we must keep for administrative, legal or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
Newsletter sign-up information is sent to Mailchimp which stores the information on secure servers outside the Netherlands. Mailchimp follows GDPR compliant safeguards for international data transfers.
